I’ve always loved the name of this park, but I never hear more than the name. Can you tell us more about Sleeping Bear Dunes and what goes on there? Or is the bench the entire highlight of the park, and now that I’ve seen it I have no reason to visit if I am driving around the country some day?

Nope, just a bench. That’s it. Nothing more to see. 😉

We did write a bit more on Sleeping Bear Dunes here. For even more there is always the park’s Visitor Information Site. But basically it is a large sand dune along the Lake Michigan shoreline with a bunch of hiking trails. Very pretty park. It’s worth a stop if you’re in the area.

We have gone x-country skiing in the Sleeping Bear Dunes and stayed at a resort called the Homestead. Wonderful for families especially in the Midwest, there is downhill skiing and snowboarding in the area. Very picturesque and unique with Lake Michigan as a backdrop, Lived in Colorado and skied most places there and although it cannot be compared, this area of Michigan is also a little slice of heaven and pefect for a mini staycation if you live in the area.

PS: My son and his family just got back from a summer trip to this area and had a great time.

We were really surprised by the beauty and diversity of Michigan. It’s a place that most folks don’t think of as a vacation destination but with unique areas like Sleeping Bear Dunes and truly world-class places like Pictured Rocks, Michigan definitely should be on folks travel radar.
