Just outside Moab in Southeastern Utah, Arches National Park preserves and protects more than 2,000 natural sandstone arches. It is believed the park contains the greatest diversity of such formations anywhere in the world. A small sampling includes Landscape Arch (above) . . .

So beautiful — it’s been several years since I last went there, but I think of the place all the time. Thanks for posting!

Amazing. My one big regret when I drove back across the country was not stopping here. Thanks for the great photos and the renewed inspiration to get there….

The Moab area is pretty awesome. It’s definitely a place you want to get back to. Stay tuned, we’ll have more in the coming days.

Very beautiful. I saw one such formation in Joshua Tree and would love to see more.

How is Joshua Tree? Not sure if we’re going to make it there or not. Is it worth a detour?

I think it’s stunning, but then again I wasn’t on the same adventure as you are at the time (just fleeing Los Angeles now and again for a majestic weekend). If you go, I highly recommend 29 Palms Inn. You get a little adobe hut with firewood delivered every night. http://www.29palmsinn.com/

My sister and I stumbled upon Arches during a drive from Chicago to California and it turned out to be one of my favorite places in the world.

I can see why. The area has to be one of the most beautiful anywhere. Really amazing.

Great shots of a park that’s up there in my Top Three list. One additional advantage is that when we visited back in the 80s, we very nearly had the park all to ourselves. Hope it never gets elbow to elbow like so many of the other more well-known parks.

Thanks. The first arch looks so fragile and delicate. Amazing that it stands. You do excellent work with a camara. You are an inspiration.

When we arrived at Moab, we checked into our B n B south of town, then headed right out to Arches to watch the sun set over a couple of hours. Great color and shadows. We shall have to return to explore more of the park in the future.
