I got up early for no other reason than to see the morning sun break on California’s incredible coast. This little excursion took me roughly fifty miles along the Pacific Coast Highway from Morro Bay, past Hearst Castle, to the southern reaches of Big Sur.
Along the way I stumbled upon, almost literally, a couple of juvenile elephant seal males – sparring of course.
Temporarily lost my car keys at this nifty little spot, which wouldn’t have been the worst place to be stranded.
And watched giant waves crash behind this diminutive house-like structure.
That part of the California coastline is my favorite and that’s saying a lot from a California girl!

Beautiful, Brian. I love mornings on the beach and especially love photographing water and waves. I’m just a tad envious but so happy you decided to get out of bed for this. 🙂

Are you still in your motorhome? We have a daughter in Santa Monica and would like to find a coastal place to park ours when we visit her, but haven’t had much luck in locating anything that isn’t really expensive (I know, it is SoCal!)
These photos are so beautiful, and given that we are again having snow here in MN, they are a feast for the eyes.

You’ve perfectly captured my spiritual color palette. I love the CA, OR, and WA coasts. Gorgeous photos.

I did that myself when I was younger. Then I realized – wait – the sun rises in the East and set in the West. And I was from the West coast. 😉 Check out the sunset; it’s spectacular.

I can just imagine what it must have been like. There’s nothing like this feeling, watching the day dawn. Glad you found your keys!

Ah the feeling of being alone in a remote location and first laying eyes on those previously lost car keys is one of life’s great ones. 🙂
