Dog Tired in Thailand

Dog sleeping in front of Buddha statue in Thailand

After 20 hours of continuous travel, a quick sleep in Bangkok, and another early morning flight, we finally arrived in Chiang Rai, Thailand, the first stop on our four-month tour of South East Asia.

We chose Chiang Rai because it looked like a sleepier and more low-key way to ease ourselves into our Asian travels. We’re saving rough and rowdy Bangkok for later in our trip. Our plans right now mostly involve recovering slowly from jet lag by medicating ourselves liberally with the terrific Thai food that seems more plentiful here even than Buddhist temples.

We’ll undoubtedly visit some temples too, like the relatively modern Wat Jet Yod shown above, which was built in 1884 and has the unmistakable virtue of being located just a few steps from our guesthouse.

But first, the food and an observation. With so much food porn circulating these days somehow nobody ever thinks to include the “money shot.” Sure that heaping plate looks great on film, but how do know it’s for real unless . . .

Have you been to the Philippines yet? Maybe you have to try too! Visit the island of Bohol for diving, boracay and Palawan. They are some of the beauty spots to remember in the country 😉

We have not yet been to the Philippines. We still have some time at the end of that we don’t yet have plans for so the Philippines is an option. Thanks for the suggestions.

Are you ordering the Thai version or the Tourist version of the food? The former a bit on the spicy side as I recall it.

At most of the places we’ve hit they don’t speak a ton of English so we’re just pointing at stuff and they’re giving us what they give us. Whether its a tourist version or not, I can’t say. I can say that the food we’ve had isn’t as spicy as I thought it would be, although I’m somewhat of a glutton for heat. I do like that they have various chili concoctions available so you can choose your own spice.

We were just in Scotland. Sadly we fell so far behind in our blog writing that we didn’t cover any of our travels there. Of all the places we went, we loved the Isle of Skye most. We went in the summer, though, and it was already cool/cold up north. We might have had a different itinerary had we traveled through there in December.

I can imagine the itinerary would be significantly different! LOL We are debating between Scotland, and Germany for that time period, because I want to see all the Christmas shops in Germany, still qualify for space-A travel. and it would be a centralized point to explore the rest of Europe from. We plan on renting a small studio for 6 months to a year, and taking our time seeing everything we want to see. I love reading about your exploits, and your awesome pics!

Hope you try the crossing to Laos in the north – interesting. We stayed at the Anantara Golden Triangle when we were there in late 2012. Have a look at my blog for some photos if you want.
