Best of the Blog: 2012’s Top 10

Yellowstone, Pool

With 2012 coming to a close it’s once again time for the annual retrospective. This year, instead of us selecting our favorites, we trolled through our blog statistics to try to discern which of our posts were most widely read and shared. What we came up with is a kind of “Reader’s Choice” roundup.

The results are a somewhat eclectic mix of travel stories, how-to pieces and general musings. If there is a message to us in this it is that we should keep writing a variety of articles, throwing stuff against the wall because we never know what’s going to stick.

But that’s a topic for another day. Today we’re all about revealing the first five posts of 2012’s Top 10:

10) How to Build a Mobile Business

Earning a living on the road isn’t easy, but it’s getting easier every day. The opportunities to make a buck while traveling today are limited only by your creativity and your ambition. Here are some thoughts to help you get started.

9) Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone is so huge we devoted three posts to it, any one of which was popular enough to have qualified for this list. The Colors, Otherworldliness and Ordinary Beauty of Yellowstone were all as big a hit here as the park was with us.

8) The Indispensable Man

Beach chairs, beach scene, blue water

Our labor day post encouraging people to labor less by taking all of their allowed vacation days struck a bit of a nerve. The ensuing discussion in the comments section is at least as worthwhile a read as the original post.

7) How to Travel as a Couple without Killing Each Other

It’s not surprising that a post answering the question we get asked most frequently also ended up being one of the year’s most read. More importantly, after spending 11 additional months traveling together since this post first appeared, we’re happy to report that both of us are still alive and kicking.

6) What Obamacare Means for Perpetual Travelers Like Us

We dive into the politically charged health reform debate not to rehash well worn talking points but to highlight specific challenges the U.S. health care system poses to long-term travelers like us and how Obamacare might help.
