Big Island Waterfalls

These are just a few of the numerous waterfalls that grace Hawaii’s Big Island. We found these particular cascades just a short distance from the city of Hilo near Mauna Kea.
Journey through the clouds up the world’s tallest mountain
We had every reason not to go. The weather in Hilo, Hawaii, was unrelentingly bleak. A blanket of clouds and gray mist that sporadically turned to rain put a damper on this erstwhile tropical paradise and on our mood.
Besides, with visibility restricted to little more than an arm’s length there seemed little point in heading up the world’s tallest mountain. What new grayness would we see at the summit that we couldn’t see from the base?
Release the Hostages!

Our National Parks have been kidnapped! The perpetrators say that we need to surrender our health insurance and financial security to win their release. We’re told that unless we pay their ransom our parks, along with the rest of our government, will remain closed.
For our part, we’re holding vigil near the gates of Sequoia National Park hoping Congress will release it unharmed. We’ll update this post’s banner photo with a new National Park image each day the hostage crisis continues in an attempt to send the following message to Congress:
Cut the shit and release the hostages.
