Colorado Springs is such an amazing place that it’s one of the few we’ve come across that we’d consider using as a home base once we trade in the RV. There’s a vibrant small city, close proximity to Denver, stunning parks, and access to some of the best outdoor activities and scenic beauty anywhere in the world.
It is also one of those areas that decided it can charge tourists exorbitant prices for things that are free most everywhere else.
Life and Death on Bedlam Farm
We didn’t know exactly what we were looking for. Jon had given us directions and we had the aid of our trusty GPS, but nothing we could see told us for certain we had actually arrived at Bedlam Farm in upstate New York.
I turned cautiously up the drive, not wanting to trespass uninvited on private property. The only visible sign read “By Appointment Only.” We weren’t sure if it was a clue or a warning. Then we heard the sound that told us we were absolutely in the right place.
A Walk Through the Garden of the Gods
15 miles of hiking trails wind through gloriously upended sandstone formations in Colorado Springs’ Garden of the Gods. Free to the public by decree of railroad magnate Charles Eliot Perkins, whose family donated the land to the city in 1909, the property was named as one of the nation’s top ten public places in 2011. With sites like these, it is easy to see why.
How We Chose Our RV
Within the last couple of weeks we’ve received enough questions about our RV, and how we chose it, that an entire post on the subject seems warranted. We haven’t spoken a lot about the nuts and bolts of RVing in the past, so this is a topic that is probably a bit overdue.
When we first decided to live in an RV fulltime it was something we knew absolutely nothing about. To be honest, we couldn’t tell a Class A from a 5th wheel from a cow. We had never owned so much as a pop-up trailer. Heck, we had never even spent a night in a camper of any kind. It took us about two months of hard research to go from zero to confident RV owners.
