Ignorance truly is bliss.
To say that we were ignorant about what we’d find at Yellowstone National Park is a bit of an understatement. We knew the park contained a geyser called Old Faithful but not much beyond that. We assumed, given its close proximity to the adjoining Teton Range, we’d mostly find more of the same at Yellowstone: alpine lakes, mountains, and rugged natural beauty. What we found, instead, was like nothing we’d ever seen before.

Around the turn of the 20th century Mormon settlers established 27 homesteads in the shadow of the Teton Mountain Range in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Today, six building clusters remain and are preserved as part of Grand Teton National Park’s “Mormon Row.”
We were treated to an atmospheric extravaganza at Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park. All of these photos were taken within a few short hours, over which time the weather alternated between brooding and blazing sun, popping off lightning and rainbows with equal frequency.
The Teton Range is stunning all on its own. But for our arrival she dressed up in Mother Nature’s finest. We couldn’t feel more grateful.
I don’t think we’ve ever been anywhere with a greater concentration of scenic beauty than Moab, UT. Within a short drive of the small town there are two distinct national parks (Canyonlands and Arches) and the spectacular Dead Horse Point State park.
But even just driving ordinary back roads we encountered landscapes (like the one above) that would be considered national park worthy if they were located in any other part of the country. The entire area is simply amazing.
