Not really, but the southern edge of Hunting Island Beach is covered with a small forest of these dead trees; obviously consumed by the encroaching tides. It’s quite a contrast to the leafy, jungle-like, forests just a short walk away.
There was a loop that went out into the ocean by the north bathhouse. You can see where the pavement ends going towards the beach. I can’t remember which hurricane destroyed it. But, it was the same one that opened that inlet and killed all the trees in that area. Did you see the view from the top of the lighthouse or get any fresh shrimp right off the boat?
We rode our bikes down to the lighthouse and were debating whether to go up when we heard some folks talking about how you could see a whale swimming not far off shore. So we paid our two bucks and up we climbed. No whale. We did see a really big hornet, though, so that counts for something.
