Move Over Zombies, the Night Watch has Arrived

Rembrandt Night Watch

This is possibly the best “Flash Mob” ever. To commemorate the reopening of Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum on April 13, a large portion of which was closed for a decade’s long renovation, performers staged an elaborate re-creation of Rembrandt’s most famous work The Night Watch before an unsuspecting audience.

MIsguided, unfortunately. Schiller is German, Beethoven anachronistic. Neither has anything to do with the Rijksmuseum.

Yeah, silly Rijksmuseum promoting themselves in such a way to reach a quarter million people and counting. Misguided. Truly.

This was a great flash mob. Fantastic idea to use The Night Watch to promote the re-opening as it is so symbolic of the museum. The re-opening will be a massive event here. The last day it was open (10 long years ago) the queue went on for miles. I am expecting the same on 13th April! What I have seen so far the renovation looks stunning. Certainly looking forward to my first vist to the new and improved Rijksmuseum.

We had the good fortune of visiting it before it closed. I can’t believe it’s been shut for ten years. That’s just crazy. I’m so glad it’s reopening and can’t wait to get back.

We can’t believe it has taken that long either! Unforseen problems, crazy tender process and dont forget the numerous discussions over the cycle path (only in Holland!)…. all adds up to something like a 6 or 7 year delay. Glad to hear you will be revisiting:-)
